The Make happy club box #1 (WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS)

It's been four years in the making but the Make Happy Club box is now just under a month away from launching! I've been working hard designing and doing lots of stitching over this past month! And I am excited to be able to finally reveal to you what the first project is going to be.

For the June box I have been inspired by nature and our wonderful planet that we all live on. I think especially since the pandemic began we have all been able to slow down a little bit and appreciate more of the natural world around us and we've noticed that nature has started to reclaim certain spaces. It sparked my creativity and I really wanted to share a nature based project with you. So for this first design I have included lots of beautiful foliage, vibrant florals and an adorable parrot and panda! Our first stitching project will be cross stitch. (The make happy club box will vary between cross stitch and embroidery each month but we are starting with a cross stitch project.) But with a twist as we will be using negative space within the design to create the lettering (negative space is just an area where we won't stitch!) This is the first design that I have ever done that utilises negative space in this way and the effect is very modern and striking.

Cross stitch if you haven't done it before is a fantastic needlepoint craft to begin with. Once you have learnt the stitch needed following our photo instructions and video tutorial, then it is simply a case of following the pattern and watching the design come to life on your fabric. This kit only uses whole cross stitches too which keeps it nice and simple to introduce you gently to cross stitching. And it comes with everything that you need to complete your design - check out the unboxing video below to see what is included!

Once stitched this design will look perfect as a little accent of colour on a shelf next to a houseplant or hung up in your living room. Subscriptions will open on the 1st of May 2021 and will then close on the 20th of May 2021 with the first box being sent out end of May ready for June! Every month £3 from each box will be donated to a different charity and this month for any subscription sign ups in May we will be donating £3 for each Make Happy Club box sold to Friends of the Earth UK via the work for good platform. Friends of the Earth UK are part of an international community dedicated to protecting the natural world and the wellbeing of everyone in it. They lead campaigns, provide resources and information, and drive real solutions to the environmental problems facing us all.
